Biodun’s Full Story
I came into Ibadan in 2015 to join my aunt and also look for means to earn money so as to assist my mum in taking care of my siblings after my father left us. I left home angry and willing to do anything at all just to help my mum out and after speaking with my aunt, she asked me to come to Ibadan to join her and work.
.
On getting to Ibadan, I realized that the work my aunty was referring to was prostitution and at that point I really had no choice because I already started to feel hatred for men as a result of my father’s actions.
I agreed and she told me all the necessary things I needed to know and I got into it. I started making money from sleeping with men and was constantly abused by some of them, I began to smoke weed to get high so as not to feel the pain I was in. I even tried lesbianism at some point and I became a shadow of myself.
I came across connecting hearts initiative at kara brothel where they promised to help me and I refused their help at first but they kept visiting the brothel and soon I felt like I had friends cause they would come and sit with me and we would talk about things.
I eventually decided to leave the brothel because I was no longer making money and things were though for me. I moved into the blooming dames shelter and there I was never judged, I felt so comfortable, I decided that I wanted to be a fashion designer and the organization sponsored my training. Today, I am a better person and the thought of going back to the trade doesn’t cross my mind anymore. I am getting better by the day and I even forgave my dad and hope that someday, he would return back home. I am grateful to God for making me better and bringing me in contact with CHI.
